Abstract
This article provides an overview of the early legislation in South Australia which related to the registration of medical practitioners, and the various moves over time to tighten those laws. In this context, it also provides the story of the person who was a trigger for changes to the laws in the late 1880s. It is suggested that the controversies surrounding these legal changes contributed to the gradual reduction in the use of homeopathy in South Australia in the 19th century.
