Abstract
The following paper was written as part of the BSc (Hons) degree in Homeopathy through The Centre for Homeopathic Education in London in affiliation with the University of Middlesex. The essay question asked the writer to compare and discuss the current scientific understanding of the origins of disease with the homeopathic philosophy of susceptibility in relation to chronic disease. The essay’s aim was to find the commonalities between the current medical paradigm and homeopathy with focus on the chronic disease of asthma. As we are currently living through a pandemic, it is a particularly pertinent question as there is a propensity for rhetoric between the two modalities to be divisive rather than cohesive. Due to the nature of asthma and its multifactorial triggers, it is vital that future management comprises of a more holistic and individualised treatment protocol, which will inevitably enable further effective and sustained care.
