Revisiting a Classical Homeopathic approach to epidemic viral influenza, in the time of Covid-19

Abstract

Considering pneumonia’s role complicating influenza, as a lead cause of death on a global scale, this paper reviews the process of homeopathic  diagnosis and remedy selection for respiratory infections, specifically symptoms of viral influenza, both during the historic Spanish Flu and current  Covid-19 pandemic. The review is informed by recent media articles, homeopathic texts, and scholarly research. Three principles of homeopathic  diagnosis and remedy selection are described, and examples of repertory use are shown, being a primary method aiding remedy choice. While isolation measures for Covid-19 must be respected, and presenting cases referred for testing and medical management as appropriate, a role  continues to exist for homeopathic consultation and prescribing. Research about self-prescribing as a prophylactic measure is presented in closing.

Keywords: Homeopathy, viral influenza and influenza pneumonia, Spanish Flu, Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic, GOF/PPP research, endangered  species, zoonotic transfer.
