Homeopathy has been incorporated into the national health care schemes of Mexico (1) and Cuba (2).
In Brazil homeopathy is considered a medical practice alternative to the conventional medical model (3), however, the use of homeopathy treatment is very low and clearly associated with a higher socioeconomic status (4). The Brazilian Homeopathic Medical Association was created in 1979 and has approximately 600 members. It represents homeopaths at a national level in scientific, ethical, social, legal and economic issues. There are three medical residency programs, 16 postgraduate courses. There around 2,600 active specialists in the national territory. Doctors are evaluated through a proficiency exam that gives the candidate who passes the test the possibility of applying for the title of specialist with the Brazilian medical association (5).
Homeopathy has been known and used in Argentina since the early 1800s (6). It can only be practised by medically qualified doctors. The Argentine Homeopathic Medical Association (AMHA), founded in 1933, was Argentina’s first homeopathic school (7). The Argentinian School of Homeopathic Medicine (Escuela Médica Homeopática Argentina) has seen 850 homeopathic doctors, 35 homeopathic veterinatians and 350 homeopathic pharmacists graduate from its courses since its inception in 1971 (8). The Candagabe University of Homeopathy (Universidad Candegabe de HomeopatÃa) is an institution dedicated to the teaching of and research into homeopath (9).
The Colombia recognises only medically trained doctors for the practice of homeopathy, however, non-medically trained practitioners are tolerated (10).
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) 2019 global report on traditional and complementary medicine, homeopathy is also used in Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela (11).
