Hahnemann’s evolving practice

Similia Vol 36 No 1 – June 2023

Author: Peter Morrell

Abstract

‘He inferred the miasmatic origin of chronic diseases from the imperfection of their cure by the unassisted vis medicatrix naturae, even in the best  constitutions.’

Before he discovered homeopathy in what Dudgeon calls his pre-homeopathic labours, Hahnemann mostly used the dominant drugs of the day:  Mercury, Opium, Rhubarb and Tartar emetic. The standard procedure at that time, and subscribed to by all physicians, was ‘to puke, purge, bleed,  flush, or sweat disease out of the body.’
