Abstract
The first proving of the Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) was undertaken in May 2024, using a sample sourced from Port Douglas, North Queensland. A total of 18 provers participated in the blind trituration proving at two locations on the same weekend. Seven of the provers were in Western Australia (WA) and 11 were in Victoria. The trituration proving followed the guidelines set down by Withold Ehrler and Dr Paul Theriault. Differences between the methodologies of the two different proving groups were noted. The WA group completed the proving to the C5 level over two days, while the Victorian group completed the trituration up to C4 level in one day. Ten major themes characterise the proving of the cassowary. Physical symptoms such as itchy skin, moving around the body, stiff and tense neck, fatigue, changing temperature of extremities – hot and cold, as well as gastro intestinal symptoms such as bloating, eructation, gassiness and sensations of fullness were noted. The trituration proving symptoms of the Southern Cassowary showed themes consistent with other bird remedies, such as life and death, transitions, and the need for silence and stillness.
