In Japan, homeopathy is practised by both professional homeopaths, certified via the Japanese Homoeopathic Medical Association (1) and medical practitioners such as doctors and dentists, trained through the Japanese Physicians Society For Homeopathy (2).
In Malaysia, the homeopathic profession was formalised in 1999 through the setup of the Malaysian Homeopathic Medical Council through the initiative of the Ministry of Health. Homeopathic education is provided through degree courses offered by the University of Cyberjaya and Lincoln University College. The number of practising homeopaths is estimated at 1,000, a ratio of 1:34,000 population. The Malaysian Homeopathic Medical Council is actively working towards increasing this ratio to 1:10,000 by 2050. (3)
In Bangladesh, homeopathy is regulated under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. There are 62 homeopathic medical colleges, overseen by the Bangladesh Homoeopathic Medical Education Council which sets the curriculum. (4)
India is known for the popular and wide use of traditional medicine (TM) systems. Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa and Homeopathy are now termed the AYUSH systems, and efforts are underway to integrate the AYUSH systems into mainstream health-care in India (5). In January 2021, the country had 312,000 practising homeopathy doctors (6) and at least 8,150 government-run hospitals / wellness centres (7). There are 277 homeopathy colleges in India, some directly associated with a university, including 41 owned and controlled by the government (8).
Sri Lanka has incorporated homeopathy into its national healthcare (12). There are thirteen government homeopathic clinics with 105 registered doctors overseen by the Homoeopathy Medical Council (9).
In Pakistan, homeopathy is incorporated into the national health care scheme (12). Pakistan regulates the homeopathic profession under the Ministry of Health with over 150,000 registered practitioners and 136 colleges (10), which are superintended by the National Council for Homoeopathy.
In Iran, homeopathy is recognised by the Ministry of Health as a legal medical modality. Practitioners have to be medical doctors to practise homeopathy. (11)
