A case of hyperthyroidism: the case of Gail

Similia Vol 29 No 1 – June 2017

Author: Fran Sheffield

Abstract

Relapsing hyperthyroidism has a poor prognosis. Recovery with standard antithyroid medications is unlikely. Current medical opinion recommends  radioactive ablation of the thyroid gland and lifelong hormone replacement with thyroxine. The following case presents the successful homeopathic  treatment of relapsing hyperthyroidism in a 65-year-old woman. Insights into the practitioner’s rationale for the series of single-remedy prescriptions  are provided. Symptoms patterns, remedy relationships, patient progress, and blood reports are examined.

Commentary on other approaches that could have been used, and the practitioner’s reasons for rejecting them, has also been included.
